Your Attention Please: If you found this page using a search engine,
you're probably in the wrong place and should go to the official
Anaheim Marriott home page .
You can't make any reservations from here, or even reach any Marriott
employee at all. This page has information compiled by and intended
for members of Conucopia, the 1999 North American Science Fiction
Convention.

The Anaheim Marriott
Meals Between Meals
A little-known fact: when Cafe del Sol is closed between mealtimes,
you can still order up something to eat at the Lobby Bar. They have a
limited menu. In addition to the selection listed on their bar menu,
you can also get burgers and fries.
Late Mornings in the Coffee Shop
The Marriott has agreed to keep their coffee shop, "Cafe del Sol,"
open for breakfast later than usual. The breakfast menu will be
available until 2pm each day, and Pizz Hut will be open late on
Thursday and Friday nights (with review on Saturday morning for
possibly extending hours on Saturday night, too).
Rooms Running Out
The Marriott, our main hotel, is full. All reservations that have been
made should have been acknowledged by the hotel. In case of any
questions, please call the hotel at 714-750-8000. Overflow rooms are
available in the Quality Hotel while supplies last (714-750-3131 or
800-231-6215, see below) if you had not already reserved a room, and
still wish to. On Monday, 16-Aug-1999, they'll release our room block,
so get your room while you can.
Pick Your Floor
In order to ensure that members with requirements to be on either
party floors or quiet floors are correctly located, people may wish to
confirm their locations with the front desk at check-in. The front
desk staff will be glad to reassign to the appropriate floor if there
have been any problems in room location.
The Hotel is Full
As of 28-Jul-1999, our room block is Full. In fact, we have
over-filled our block by at least 20%, and the hotel is completely
sold out on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday nights.
We have arranged for a block of rooms for attendees at the Quality
Hotel which is next door to the Marriott (easy walking distance, even
closer than the Hilton). Single & double rooms are available at the
convention rate of $99 per night; for triple & quad add $10 per
person. All rooms in the Quality Hotel are "quiet rooms" and we've
blocked mostly non-smoking doubles. The number to call for the Quality
Hotel is 800-231-6215 or 714-750-3131. Please refer to either North
American Science Fiction Convention or NASFiC when making a room
reservation.

Lower Room Rates Announced
The Marriott has just lowered our convention rate to just $99 a night
(plus tax), for singles, doubles, triples, and quads. Team up with
your friends - four of you can stay for just $24.75 plus tax per
night, each! We have a place for you to post a message if you're
looking for a roommate. If you've already reserved your room, you will
automatically receive the lower rate. If you haven't, the reservation
form (PDF, GIF, Text) now shows the new rate - print it out and
reserve your room today!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Anaheim Marriott Lowers NASFiC Room Rates
Fans coming to Conucopia, the 1999 NASFiC, will find staying at the
Anaheim Marriott has just become even less expensive.
The Anaheim Marriott has agreed to reduce NASFiC's sleeping room
rates to $99 for single, double, triple and quad rooms. This is a
significant saving over the original rates that ranged from $104
for single/double to $124 for quad.
The Marriott is making this voluntary change because their
forecasts predict the a $104 rate is too high to attract transient
business to the hotel over the convention weekend. Sleeping rooms
not blocked for the NASFiC may only be rented for less than $104 if
the same rate is extended to convention members, under terms of the
hotel contract.
Conucopia Hotel Liaison Bobbi Armbruster said, "It is good to work
with a hotel that likes your business and wants you to come back in
the future."
Conucopia, the 1999 NASFiC (North American Science Fiction
Convention), takes place August 26-29 at the Anaheim Marriott. For
more information, look up the NASFiC web page at
http://www.99.nasfic.org, or write to NASFiC, c/o SCIFI Inc., P.O.
Box 8442, Van Nuys, CA 91409.

Sleeping Rooms
Single (1 person, 1 bed), double (2 people, 1 bed), double double (2
people, 2 beds), triple (3 people 2 beds), and quad (4 people, 2 beds)
rooms are available at special convention rates ($99
single/double/triple/quad). Rollaway beds are available complimentary
from the hotel up to the number they have in inventory (we suggest you
reserve a rollaway bed in the "Special requests or keyword" section
when reserving your room).
Each room has individual climate controls, remote-control cable TV
with free and pay movies, AM/FM radio, two telephones, voice mail
system, and an in-room safe.
Suites
The Anaheim Marriott has several different types of suites including
bilevels and some with fireplaces and balconies. Because there are a
limited number of each type of suite, reservations requests must be
made through the convention rather than directly with the hotel. The
NASFiC Suite Czar, Ben Yalow, is monitoring the suite inventory and
any reservations or questions/requests for information should be made
through him. Ben can be reached at NASFiC SUITES, c/o SCIFI, Inc.,
P.O. Box 8442, Van Nuys, CA 91409 or suites@99.nasfic.org. Suite
prices start at $104 and bedrooms are generally not included.
Special Blocking
For people who wish to have their rooms close to one another (i.e.
blocked together), the procedure is easy. First, decide on a key word
- either a single person's name or a group name. Next, complete a
housing form for each room you want to reserve and in the "Special
request or keyword" area in the type of room section, write "please
block with [keyword]". Important: while all of the rooms in your block
need not be reserved at the same time, each room must be reserved
separately.
Airport Shuttle
The Anaheim Marriott is located approximately 20 minutes from John
Wayne/Orange County Airport, 45 minutes from Los Angeles International
Airport, and 45 minutes from Ontario Airport. Both Super Shuttle and
Airport Coach offer service from these facilities to the Anaheim
Marriott. Costs (currently) are $10 from John Wayne, $13 - $14 from
LAX, and $34 from Ontario.
Driving Directions and Parking
Ample parking is available at the Marriott for $9 per day for self
parking and $13 per day for valet (current rates as of January 1999 -
subject to change).
From points south, take the I-5 North, exit Katella Avenue and turn
left. Turn left on Harbor Blvd, then right on Convention Way. The
hotel is on the left. From LAX and points north, take the I-405 south
to the 22 East. Exit Harbor Blvd. North. Travel 4 miles to Convention
Way and turn left. The hotel is on the left.

Hotel Information
(From Progress Report 1.)
If you attended LA.con II, L.A.con III, or the 1989 Westercon you
should be familiar with our hotel facility, the Anaheim Marriott.
Considered one of the best convention hotels in the country, the
Marriott offers 54,000 square feet of meeting space - almost all of it
on one floor and opening on to a large foyer, ensuring easy traffic
flow from programming to Dealer's Room to Art Show. The hotel offers
food and beverage ranging from Pizza Hut to the award winning JW's.
Recreational opportunities include two swimming pools, jacuzzi, health
club, and, of course, complimentary trolley transportation to
Disneyland.
We have blocked about half of the Marriott's 1,039 rooms and the hotel
has agreed to assign NASFiC attendees to rooms in the "North Tower",
if at all possible, in order to keep contact between convention goers
and regular guests at a minimum. Since the Marriott has hosted SF
conventions in the past, they understand the value of blocking party
and quiet floors and are eager to work with us to see that our
attendees' needs are met. Rates at the Marriott are $99 for single,
double, triple or quad (plus tax). Suites, in varying sizes and
prices, are also available. Housing forms are now available in various
formats.

Additional tidbits and trivia
If you have a question about the hotel that isn't covered here, write
us at help@99.nasfic.org and we'll try to track down the answers.
"What are the convention rates? How do I reserve my room?"
Rates at the Marriott are $99 single, $99 double, $99 triple,
and $99 quad. Suites, in varying sizes and prices, are also
available. Housing forms are now available in various formats.
"What about tax? How much are the rooms, really?"
Tax on hotel rooms in Anaheim is 15%, plus another surcharge of
15 more cents. That adds $15 to the price shown above. Of
course, that's for the whole room, regardless of whether you
have one person or four sleeping in the room, so if you have
three roommates, you'll each only pay $28.50 per night.
"How tall is the hotel?"
The Marriott has two guest towers.
+ The East Tower contains guest floors 2-12, 14-19. It has the
low-numbered rooms on each floor, for example rooms
1600-1639. This is the tower above the hotel's main entrance
and front desk, and is the left-hand tower in the photo.
+ The North Tower (i.e., the one to the west) contains guest
floors 2-12, 14-17. It has the high-numbered rooms on each
floor. This is the tower above the function space (also known
as the "Marriott Hall") and is closer to the Anaheim
Convention Center. It's the right-hand tower in the photo.
"Where can I find a cash machine?"
There's an ATM in the lobby.
"Where is smoking allowed/not allowed?"
See Smoking at Conucopia.
"Is the hotel barefoot-friendly?"
Sort of. ("Don't ask, don't tell.") They have a pool, after
all, and the most common route to get it from the elevators is
through the Lobby Bar. The hotel does not have a specific
barefoot policy. If you're running barefoot through the
function space, a hotel employee might suggest shoes for your
own safety, but the actual call one way or the other would be
made by the manager on duty at that time. My suggestion: don't
leave dirty footprints and they probably won't hassle you. (See
also barefooters.org and a letter
from California's Dept. of Health Services
.)
"Are the stairs available for our use?"
Sort of. The stairs in the North Tower have "two-way doors"
(that is, you can get from the floor to the stairs and from the
stairs to the floor) except for the first floor, where the door
locks behind you as you exit the stairs. (We haven't examined
the East Tower stairs closely yet.)
"Is there a self-service coin laundry?"
Yes.
"What credit cards do the hotel accept?"
American Express, Carte Blanche, Diners Club, Discover, En
Route, JCB, Mastercard, Visa.
