Program Schedule

No Fantasia 2000.

Despite the radio, television and newspaper coverage, there will be no showing of Disney's "Fantasia 2000" at the NASFiC. The convention could not make an acceptable accomodation with Disney.

JMS and the "Trailer Park"

Conucopia Programming has moved J. Michael Straczynski's presentation to Saturday at 1pm. Mr. Straczynski requested the move to accommodate a change in his professional commitments, which prevented him from being able to be at the convention on Sunday. In order to accomplish this we have moved Jeff Walker's Trailer Park to Sunday at 11:30am. We would like to apologize to our convention members for this late change and thank Mr. Straczynski and Mr. Walker for working with us to come up with a plan that still allowed both presentations to take place.

James P. Hogan Regrets

James P. Hogan contacted us this morning, 23-Aug-1999, and regrets that he can not attend as he has had a family matter come up. We wish him all the best, and will miss him at the convention.

Tentative Schedule

Programming is tentatively planned to run in 90 minute slots, giving you up to half an hour to get from one panel to another. Tentative schedule for daytime program: There will be evening programming, too, times TBD.

More specific information about the program -- what panels, who exactly will be on them, what times and in which rooms will they be held -- will come much closer to the convention. Check back here a week before the convention, there's a good chance we'll have that information for you then.

Programming Update

(from Progress Report 3)

Using my double bladed light saber I have been able to cut through most of the huge pile of replies we received to our invitations to participate in NASFiC programming. The response has been great. In addition to our wonderful Guests of Honor, I can now confirm many other guests. Harlan Ellison will be attending convention on Saturday only and will be speaking and autographing in the afternoon. J. Michael Straczynski will be attending and participating in panels as well as doing a program on B5.

David Brin, Larry Niven, Harry Turtledove, Warner Books editor Betsy Mitchell and many more will be participating in panels during the convention. Science programming is really filling up fast. We have some very interesting presentations for you. There will, of course, be the Y2K panel. We also have a set of costuming panels in the works as well as Fan panels. And, though I haven't heard what or when, I feel relatively comfortable in saying a hoax panel is in the works....right, gang?

Two film/video rooms are being programmed and the evening events are shaping up nicely. Bring your dancing shoes because there are 3 dances on the schedule already. In addition to a rock dance, there is also a wonderful dance that will start with music from the 1930's and work forward decade by decade to the present. The Regency Dance is also on the schedule so pack your costumes!

We are looking forward to seeing you all in Anaheim and I just want to say thank you to all our guests for agreeing to participate!

Noel Wolfman

The convention doesn't end at six o'clock.

At the NASFiC, you get four days of talking about science fiction, with panels and readings and autographings all day and special events every night. You get lots of panels and programs, all day, on an amazing variety of topics. Science programs; how to behave at a convention programs; how to be a writer (OK, how to sell what you've written) programs; fan meetings, for all kinds of fans -- Star Trek fans, B-5 fans, alternative lifestyle fans...

If you've never been to a convention like the NASFiC, you'll be amazed at how many different things there are to do, all day, and at night. This isn't a "single-track plus a dealers room" convention or show; this is going to be big. There will be panels, autographs, films, readings, workshops, games, discussion groups, and so forth. And the convention keeps going in the evening, with more events, panels, readings, and lots of open parties.

We'll have some more information for you soon, from our Programming Division head. And watch this space over the next two years, as things shape up.
