Anaheim Marriott is Almost Full * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * As of 26-Jun-1999, our room block is 75% Full. We had a sharp jump in the last few weeks - we may fill up our room block before the convention. We only have so many rooms that hotel is setting side for us. If the rest of the hotel is sold out, then when our room block is sold out you won't be able to get a room. The NASFiC Room Reservation Form is now online in PDF (44K), GIF (13K), and Text (3K) formats. See our web page, or send a message that says "send resform.txt" to "info@99.nasfic.org". Where is smoking allowed/not allowed at Conucopia? * * * * * * * * * * Glenn Glazer, Glenn.Glazer@99.nasfic.org California has some of the toughest non-smoking laws around. The short answer is, "Smoking is illegal in all indoor public places." Where Smoking is Not Allowed: in the lobby of the function space, or the lobby of the North Tower; in the lobby of the main hotel (East Tower), such as by the hotel's front desk; in or near the elevators; in the restaurants; in the bars; in non-smoking guest rooms; in the function space (which would include the convention registration room); in stairwells or just about any other indoor public place. Where Smoking is Allowed: outdoors; or in designated guest rooms. The ballroom lobby has doors opening directly outside. PDF PR's, Flyers, Web News * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Progress Report 3 has gone to press. There's a PDF copy on the web site. I'll be putting a full plain text version online shortly. After I'm done with that, I'll incorporate all the bits and pieces into their respective departments, and then send another Infobot News out to you. Meanwhile we're seeing a little chatter on NASFIC99-CHAT. You can sign up for this e-mail discussion list on the web page, or write to listmaster@99.nasfic.org if you don't have web access. The "Roommates" message board is seeing a little bit of traffic - we've already had someone say "Take my listing off, I found a roommate." That's a web-only feature, I'm afraid... if you don't have web access and want something posted, send it via e-mail to Monica at offline@99.nasfic.org and ask her nicely if she'll post it for you. We now have a PDF flyer on-line. Thanks to Tony Benoun for sending it to us. This means that, if you decide you'd like to print up some Conucopia flyers and hand them out, you can do it off of the web page (as long as you've got Adobe Acrobate read). You can find all of our PDF files in http://www.99.nasfic.org/pdf/ Other things we've put on-line: A list of area Amusement Parks and Attractions. An updated list of artists attending the convention. Ice Cream Social, Karaoke Night * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Mike Donahue, ice.cream@99.nasfic.org Our Ice Cream Social will be held 8-9 pm, Thursday 26-Aug-1999. Theme: George W. Orwell Science Fiction Polytechnic Space Academy Class of '84 Reunion. High School yearbooks will be handed out in your Registration/Goodie bags. Bring them to have them signed by faculty and administration. (For example, Jerry Pournelle, Science teacher.) Immediately following, from 9-11 pm, will be Karaoke Night, featuring the Enigma Players and audience participation. A playlist (mostly 80's dance tunes) will be available at Information. After that, we'll have an 80's-themed dance in the same room until the wee hours. Blood Drive * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Mike Sheffield, blood@99.nasfic.org ATTENTION CONUCOPIA MEMBERS THE CODOMINIUM WANTS YOU* *To donate blood We are planning to have a blood drive at Conucopia. The blood drive will take place on Friday, 27-Aug-1999 (hours have not been determined, but probably noon to six). Whether you are a first timer or have given so many times you've had a spigot surgically grafted to your arm, I hope you will make time in your day to come by and give. You could be saving a life. You could also win one of our fabulous prizes, such as a free membership to LosCon XXVI (Thanksgiving Weekend Nov. 26-28, 1999). I'm also asking that if you plan to donate, you take a few minutes to write me. E-mail to: blood@99.nasfic.org or snail mail to: write me at * Mike Sheffield * 4572 Keever Ave. * Long Beach, CA 90807-1819 The reason that I ask this is that at some past conventions, donors had to be turned away because the Red Cross couldn't handle the volume. So I'm trying to get list of names to give to them so they'll know we're serious, and so that they can plan how many nurses and supplies to have on hand. You won't have to sign up for a particular time slot until you get to the Con and have a chance to check the schedule so that you can plan your time around that must see panel. Thank you in advance for your support, and I'll see you at the Con. Art Show Filling Up; Digital Demos * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Jerome Scott and Elizabeth Klein-Lebbink, artshow@99.nasfic.org The Art Show is almost full up - 68 artists have already reserved 79% of the space in the room. Panels sold: 80%. Tables sold: 75%. If you'd like to exhibit your art at Conucopia, please see the web page for full artists' rules or write to art.show@99.nasfic.org. If you're one of our artists, by now you should have received some paperwork. We have copies of the Instructions, Control Sheet, and Bid Sheets available online in PDF form. If you do not have an artist's number, you have not registered or paid fees to the art show and cannot use these forms - please contact the art show directors at artshow@99.nasfic.org for more information on how to register for the art show. French artist Philippe Coriat will be giving demonstrations in the Art Show during the convention, times to be announced. For samples of his work, see http://www.multimania.com/mystrav/ko/PAGE.HTML Masquerade * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Kathy Sanders, masq@99.nasfic.org Attention Masquerade Contestants! * There will be a backdrop available for flash photography. * The double-doors open up to 5' wide. If your costume is more than 5 feet wide or 6'8" tall, you might not get through the door. * The Masquerade Director dearly appreciates everyone who pre-registers by mail, because it gives her an idea of the head count. There are two important new announcements concerning the masquerade. Number 1: The stage will be 24' deep x 32' wide x 32" high, with steps on both sides. The primary entrance will be stage left, with the primary exit on stage right. Entrances and exits are possible from either side, but we need to know ahead of time if you plan to vary from the standard. Doors leading into the Green Room and Ball Room are standard height (6' 8") although some are double width (2 x 2'6", i.e. a double-doorway five feet across). Number 2: The Masquerade will be offering three (3) cash prizes. These will be awarded by a special panel of judges on merit alone, with no consideration for class or category. For a complete set of rules send a legal-sized sase to the convention address or check the NASFiC web site.
