Conucopia Infobot News - 15-Jan-1999
Conucopia, c/o SCIFI, PO Box 8442, Van Nuys CA 91409.
The Conucopia Infobot News is a service of the Conucopia Web Site,
http://www.99.nasfic.org/ . If you know someone who'd like to subscribe,
tell 'em to go to our web site at http://www.99.nasfic.org/ and enter
their e-mail address. If your e-mail address changes, or if you wish to
be removed from the Conucopia Infobot News mailing list, or if you
don't have web access and want to be added to the list, please write
to listmaster@99.nasfic.org.

Conucopia's Infobot, which automatically answers all e-mail sent to
info@99.nasfic.org, is back on the air. We list this as our primary point
of contact because a very large number of people who send us e-mail just
want to know when, where, and how much. And now, anyone who has e-mail
access can get all the information about the convention - everything
that's on the web page is also available through the Infobot.
The "info" address is answered automatically. For those cases when you
simply have to reach a real live human being and feel like you're stuck
in the e-mail equivalent of Voice Mail Hell, we have the "Help Desk" at
help@99.nasfic.org. The incredibly able and talented Liz Mortensen will
read your e-mail, and either reply, forward your message to the right
person, or have the Infobot send you the information you request. Since
Liz sees the chairman of the convention every week, she's in the right
place to handle it.
I'd like to take this moment to thank Liz for impersonating the "Infobot"
as well, while the program was out of order. Much obliged!

We Want You - Be a Conucopia Volunteer!
Conucopia can't run with fans just sitting around waiting for things
to happen. It needs all of us pitching in and helping. The convention
needs your help! It doesn't matter if you've got one hour free or the
whole convention, we can use you! You can even sign up now and let us
know what you'd like to do at the con.
Volunteers are needed for a wide variety of tasks: registration,
checking for badges, crowd management at various functions, helping
set up and tear down for the convention, displaying wares at the Art
Auction, newsletter distribution, food preparation for the con suite,
running errands and basically performing all the functions that keep
things moving smoothly at the convention.
Convention welcomes any and all volunteers, who may be rewarded for
services rendered in various ways. Each hour worked entitles the
volunteer to one entry in the volunteer raffle of prizes donated.
After a set number of hours, volunteers may receive a Conucopia
Volunteer T-shirt. While there is no guarantee of reimbursement, if
the convention has funds left after required expenditures, volunteers
could be refunded a portion of their membership fees, based on hours
worked.
Volunteers may visit the staff lounge where food and beverages will be
provided. Refreshments will also be available in the Gopher Hole
(Volunteer suite) periodically. If you have any time to spare for the
convention, please take a few minutes to complete the questions and
information section in the Volunteers Sign-up Form [New 08-Jan-1999]
and then either send it from the web page, or mail it back to
Conucopia, c/o S.C.I.F.I., Inc.

Attn: Volunteers
or e-mail it to volunteers@99.nasfic.org
Please bear in mind that most positions at the convention will not be
filled immediately, so you shouldn't be surprised or offended if you
hear nothing more for a while.

Daily Newsletter * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Chaz Boston Baden, newszine@99.nasfic.org
Conucopia's Daily Newsletter is under the overall direction of Chaz
Boston Baden and the "Pan-Galactic Publishing" crew. Our News Desk
will be in the Marriott's ballroom lobby, in the same general area as
Information, Handicapped Access, and Volunteers. If you want to
contribute something to the newsletter, the best way is to stop by the
News Desk. Or, put your note in one of the drop envelopes on the "news
boards."
If you have a digital camera, bring it to the convention, along with
your driver software and cables if needed. Stop by the News Desk early
in the convention so we can set things up and make sure you're
equipped to take notes - if you take a picture of someone, write down
their names!
The Daily Newsletter will appear at least twice a day. The morning
edition will be on the stands before daytime programming begins, and
the evening edition will be on the stands before evening programming
begins. There may be a few "extra" issues as well. The newszine will
have program updates, party listings, and anything else that seems to
be worth printing. (Note to people throwing parties: deadline for
party announcements will be one hour after the hotel's check-in time.
Stop by the News Desk for more details.)
When we say "on the stands" we refer to five or so freestanding
"newszine boards" positioned throughout the convention. There will be
one near or in front of the con suite, art show, dealers room,
Information, Registration, and so on. On each rack is a space for each
issue of the newszine, so if you miss issue #2 you can go back and get
it. If you see an empty space on one board, check one of the others,
or try back later.
Next to some of the newszine boards you will find a Blue Board - a
plain board, painted blue, where party flyers may be posted, along
with other notices of events happening during the convention. The
hotel is fairly strict about where signs may be posted, so we are
providing these boards as an alternative.
